PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Thermally conductive PSA films are suitable for simple, effective and cost-effective thermal bonding of heat sinks to electrically insulated semiconductor components. They are mainly used in applications where space is limited and low weight is important. The adhesive films reduce thermal contact resistance to a minimum. Convex and concave unevenness of the contact surfaces and tolerances can be compensated very well. Materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion can be securely joined and thermally bonded well. Adhesive build-up and bonding technology eliminates the need for screws and staples as mechanical components.

A thermally conductive PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) insulating tape bonds heat sinks permanently to electrically insulated semiconductor components under pressure alone — no curing, mixing or solvent required. It simultaneously conducts heat from the component to the heat sink, reduces thermal contact resistance to a minimum and eliminates the need for mechanical fasteners such as screws or staples.
PSA tapes bond instantly under pressure with no curing time, no mixing and no solvent — ideal for high-volume automated assembly. Thermally conductive adhesives (1K or 2K) require curing time and typically achieve higher final bond strength. PSA tapes are preferred for speed and simplicity; adhesives for maximum mechanical strength.
PSA tapes provide a process-safe, uniform bondline thickness with no smearing, no pump-out risk and no migration — making them far easier to apply reliably in production. Thermal grease must be applied as a liquid with precise dosing and carries the risk of pump-out under thermal cycling. PSA tapes also provide a permanent mechanical bond that grease cannot.
